In a move which seems like a modified version of surge (except that Uber pays the extras), Uber has done away with hourly incentives and trips per hour (TPH). For those who've struggled to hit the TPH, whether due to long trips, traffic jams, or even lack of passengers, this is definitely a welcome news!
In a nutshell, the new system pays a "Boost" on all trip fares. This Boost is determined by Uber, can be seen in your driver app, and varies according to location and timing. What's even better, is that Uber does NOT take a cut from your Boost, making it even better than surge!
This new innovation is good for drivers because you get the benefits of surge even when passengers are not paying surge. As you may have experienced, sometimes surge reduces the number of bookings you get, causing you to roam around with an empty car. Boost thus benefits both passengers and drivers!
It is also fairer to drivers who get long-distance trips, as these would have made it harder or even impossible to hit their TPH for incentives, even though they were not slacking!
