Why I drive part-time with Uber Flex Club and smove

Looking around at the comments in social media, I see a lot of negativity regarding Uber and Grab driving.

As a person who has done this part-time for a number of months, and an observer of trends in the market, I have to say that some of the concerns are justified. Renting a car to drive Uber or Grab is a rather big commitment. You would have to drive several hours a day just to cover your rental and petrol costs, plus other costs like season parking, etc. Just like a regular taxi, if you don't have a relief driver to help share the costs and keep the car on the road longer, it can be a struggle to make a decent profit. And what happens if you fall sick or wish to take the day off? The costs are not going to go away. Needless to say, it is hard to justify renting a car full-time if you can only commit to driving part-time (unless, of course, you need the car for your own uses, and are ready to pay for it, and only use Uber as a means to offset part of the costs).

Personally, I have a full-time job in the day, but I have the occasional free evening and I like to use my free time productively, rather than scrolling meaninglessly through social media. I'm also in a relationship and some additional pocket money to pay for dates is nice :) Lastly, I enjoy driving, sightseeing and exploring new places.

Given my constraints, I find that Uberflex Club is a good fit for me. I can

  • Drive any time I can with only a 4h minimum commitment each time
  • Maintain my driving skills
  • Meet people and go places all over Singapore while getting paid
  • No financial commitments when I'm not driving
  • Earn up to $20/h!
  • Do something meaningful with my time by helping people get around

OK I admit my last point is bullshit, but I find the other points make Uberflex Club and smove a compelling choice for part-time work. Sure, incentives change. But therein is the beauty of Uberflex: If the incentives ever dip too low to make it worth it, just DON'T DRIVE!

Others say that working part-time in F&B or some other outlets is a less risky option. But again, those require a certain level of commitment not required by Uberflex Club, and while there can be no 100% safe job, here are some tips which help to mitigate some of the risks involved in the job.

Sounds like part-time Uber-ing could work for you? Sign up and enjoy 1 week of free rental and fuel, and use this low-risk period to try it out for yourself!
