These tips may be common sense for some seasoned drivers out there. Taxi drivers would definitely know more than me. Nonetheless, I'm still gonna share my experiences 'cos Uber-ing is quite unlike most normal driving, or even road trips!
For one, you have to be on the road for long hours, and in my case at least, with no rest breaks except 1x 5min toilet break every 2-3 hours. Also, especially for newer drivers, looking out for passengers at pick-up points can be a harrowing experience. Using the app can be tricky, even for tech savvy youngsters like me. I once picked up a customer and navigated back to his starting point because I forgot to start the trip! And of course, the most important thing of all, DRIVING SAFELY with NO ACCIDENTS!
After a couple of months of driving, here are some lessons I learned:
1. Stay calm and steady. This is especially important when you're still new and unfamiliar with how things go. You don't wanna make the same mistake as me of sending the customer back to his starting point! (Fortunately for me, they were forgiving and didn't really scold me)
2. Stay alert. This is a no-brainer, but a little harder to do when you've been driving for a couple of hours. Drink some water, eat a snack, or even just stop for a few minutes to get out of the car and stretch if you have to. It's not worth to push on and end up in an accident!
3, Take care of your health. Stay hydrated. Use the toilet when you have to. Petrol stations are pretty good places for toilet breaks (hassle-free parking, minimal walking, and even refuel your car while you pee!)
These are just some basic tips. Stay tuned for more advanced tips to enhance your earnings and make full use of your driving time!
Drive safe!
